The Food & Drink
Bruichladdich was established in 1881 when Glasgow distillers the Harvey brothers decided to build a distillery on Islay. Until then, the island's distilleries had evolved from illicit stills set up in cattle byres. The Harveys created a cathedral-like, state of the art facility so well designed that the distillery remains unchanged today and most of the original machinery is still in use. It's now run by an innovative group of whisky-mad local craftsmen. This release takes grain from farms with a terroir unique to the centre of the island, namely Claggan, Cruach, Island and Mulindry farms. Unlike some of the bigger brands, the spirit is all aged on the island and is brought down from cask strength using spring water from Octomore farm.
